What is writing task 1 General Training?
Writing Task 1 of the General Training module is to write a short letter (informal or semi-formal) of at least 150 words for a given scenario and purpose.
For example:
Scenario a) "You have recently purchased a faulty product and want it resolved",
Scenario b) "You have recently enjoyed a meal at your friend's place and want to thank them",
Scenario c) "You have recently stayed in a hotel where you accidentally left a particular item you own", or
Scenario d) "You have recently received a letter from a friend asking for their advice"
It is worth 20 out of 60 marks. The test is 60 minutes total, so you should spend 20 minutes on task 1 and 40 minutes on task 2.
What should I write in my letter?
Your letter should cover all of the items in the bulleted list given in the question.
For example:
"In your letter
- describe the item you lost
- explain how you lost it
- tell the manager what you would like him/her to do"
If you don't cover all of the listed items, you will lose marks in the Task Achievement criteria.
The question will tell you which salutation to use: "Dear Sir or Madam" or "Dear ... ".
You have to write at least 150 words other than the salutation.
