IELTS 12 Academic Test 5 Task 1

The bar graph illustrates the proportions of males and females in Australia who engaged in physical activity on a regular basis in 2010.

From the charts, it is readily apparent that more women than men tended to do regular exercise, except for the youngest and eldest age groups.

The 15 to 24 years age group was the only group where males outnumbered females (52.8% versus 47.7%). Thereafter, the relative discrepancy had reversed in that significantly more women regularly exerted themselves than men did. The largest difference between the two sexes was the 35 to 44 years group, where more than half of all women (52.5%) performed some kind of regular physical activity compared with only 39.5% for men.

From the next group onwards, the gap began to close until the oldest group, which had almost as many men as women taking some form of regular exercise (46.7% versus 47.1% respectively).
